• The courage shown by Malala Yousufzai in speaking out against Taliban human rights abuses was indeed remarkable and inspiring (Irish Independent, October 17 2012). However, I disagree that "if there is something positive to be garnered from this shocking incident, it surely is that intolerance and violence cannot extinguish the human spirit."
The reality is that intolerance, violence and wars do extinguish millions of human lives, thereby extinguishing the human spirits that are inherent within those lost human lives.
We should also be wary of children such as Malala Yousufzai being used for Western propaganda. The reality is, far too few children are evacuated from war zones, especially when the injuries have been inflicted by Western bombs in unjust wars. Thousands of Afghan and Pakistani children have died as a result of Western bombing and drone attacks. "Suffer the little children"?
