German history

• Edward Horgan in his letter ('Europe needs to find a vision', Irish Independent, August 27) says that Germany should remember the "solidarity it received in the aftermath of World War Two". I wonder if the 12-14 million Germans expelled from Central and Eastern Europe in that time would agree; their expulsion must have seemed like a strange form of solidarity!
