Gay marriage is no 'caper'

Madam -- I am picking up a hint of homophobia on reading Robert Sullivan's letter (Sunday Independent, July 15, 2012).

His references to "good and decent" father as distinct to a gay couple and his term "gay marriage caper" give the game away, and finally the "daddy" in the lesbian marriage scores the homophobic hat-trick.

How wonderful for an unloved child to be fostered to a couple, be they straight or gay, who can provide that love. It is not a subject for glib comments and trite humour. Let's grow up and be brave on this one.
