Sir - I read that ex-Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan is to receive a €300,000 lump sum and then €90,000 a year for the rest of her life as a pension.

This is absolutely disgraceful when you consider that she was a senior officer - and her period at the top coincided with a million-and-a-half fake breath tests, financial irregularities at Templemore training college, and the penalty points abuse.

All this points to total and utter mismanagement and also lack of discipline and supervision. I won't even go into the treatment of Garda McCabe.
