Funding debacle must be tackled
Madam -- I couldn't believe my eyes in last Sunday's News in Brief: "Government funds of €12.5m for Goal" (Sunday Independent, March 4, 2012), that we should be funding an aid agency that only last week appeared in the news for having issues with transparency.
The Department of Foreign Affairs allocated this sum. How did our minister for "cost-cutting", Mr Howlin, not object to this or tackle his colleague Mr Gilmore on the issue? Think what this sum could have done for those who have had funding cut, like children with special needs.
Here is a message for the two individuals involved in this debacle: spend the money on your own hard-pressed Irish citizens who put you in office.
