For the record

• In relation to an article about payments to former office holders (Irish Independent, September 29), I have, for the record, to point out that from 2009, I, like the current Finance Minister Michael Noonan, have contributed everything that I have received in respect of state pensions as TD, Attorney General, Minister and Tanaiste, to a variety of charities, Irish and international, and that includes the underpayment discovered by the Department of Finance, which was mentioned in the article.

Your readers probably have formed a very different impression from the headline on your article, 'McDowell holds on to his pension windfall of €143,000' and from the fact that only Mr Noonan was mentioned in the article as having taken the course of donating his pension to charity.

I had previously informed the Irish Independent of the true position, and this was kindly acknowledged in another article on the same issue that you published on Friday, November 11, 2011.
