On behalf of the entire thinking community, I would like to send my condolences to the family of the late Christopher Hitchens who left us on December 15 after a battle with esophageal cancer.
Hitchens was always a voice of reason amid the clamour and his death spells a great loss for writing and intellectual discourse as a whole. Hitchens made it his life's business to fight against ignorance and casuistry; a new word was even named in honour of his rewarding stupidity with a 'Hitchslap'.
Never fearing to tread on delicate ground, Hitchens challenged conventional views in politics, literature and religion. As the great man said: "Take the risk of thinking for yourself, much more happiness, truth, beauty, and wisdom will come to you that way."
