Farmers will suffer
For somebody who would claim to be an astute observer of farming matters, Joe Barry very much misses the point in his comment piece (March 21).
The IFA's campaign on CAP reform is based on the damage that the European Commission proposals would do to the incomes of tens of thousands of farmers around the country. What we want is a Single Farm Payment model that rewards production, irrespective of enterprise, size or location.
Over 40,000 farmers are in the range of €250-€400 payment per hectare, and with a holding of less than 40 hectares. They would have seen their payments cut by 30pc.
