Ex-rugby players will do just fine
MARIE Dowling (Letters, March 1) need have no worries about what happens to our almost saintly national rugby chaps when they shuffle off into very early 'retirement'.
For a start, they will receive half of all the income tax they have paid during their playing careers. And they will, no doubt, get highly paid positions outside of the game, because of their fame. It's only a game, Marie, and not about "character".
Character is about a young man or woman getting out of bed every morning and trying to face the desolation of the economic collapse which has ruined their lives and put them in fear of not being able to feed their families.
This also applies to the older folk who have had their pensions decimated.
The chaps will be fine, don't worry your head about them, Ireland.
