THE Revenue Commissioners must be congratulated for trying to stamp out bogus redundancy tax relief for employees and employers alike.
The racket of making a person redundant and then rehiring them a short time later must come to an end. This is without doubt one of the most corrupt practices within the labour market in this country and is not just confined to public sector and semi-state jobs.
It is also endemic in the private sector, especially with large companies and among the hot-shot accountants that they employ to beat the tax take.
It also gives distorted figures in relation to unemployment levels because our 'cute crowd' want to dodge the tax bullet while everybody else pays the piper.
At the end of the day, there would be nothing wrong with this country if people straightened up and paid their fair share.
Well done to the Revenue for trying to stop this practice.
