Electorate ignored on Higgins replacement

I have the highest regard for Joe Higgins; he's one of the few politicians I would actually vote for and believe in. But I am disappointed his replacement will not have been elected by the people.

The people of Dublin elected Mr Higgins to the European Parliament. His replacement should be voted on by the electorate and not bequeathed to some fifth-placed sub nobody voted for.

This affront to democracy has also taken place on the councils where people already rejected by the electorate have been co-opted on to seats.
