Economic woes have silver lining
THE black cloud of economic woe that is currently hanging over us may yet prove to have a silver lining.
Surely, as a result of the comprehensive review of public spending that has been forced upon it, the Government will at last cease the appalling practice of channelling millions of Irish taxpayers’ euros to corrupt and brutal regimes in the developing world. There can be no greater example of the cavalier use of public funds.
This means of aid delivery should never have been embarked upon in the first place – on moral grounds, never mind fiscal. If it isn’t stopped immediately, the hard-pressed Irish public should take to the streets until it is.
