Dublin needs this incinerator

THE action of Dublin City Council in setting in train the compulsory purchase order for the waste-to-energy incinerator in Poolbeg is clearly in the public interest.

Environment Minister John Gormley has at most about 22 months left in office. Any new minister can reverse financial constraints introduced to impede effective use of incineration. Landfills are a no-no.

Irrespective of party considerations, this move by Dublin City Council is correct and not before time. It will protect the taxpayer from pain due to government-inflicted EU fines.
