• Last week, I spent a week in Bavaria, southern Germany, and was interested to see German efficiency in action.
Public transport was clean, on time and inexpensive. Eating out and the price of a pint were, again, very reasonable. Even though alcohol was cheap, I didn't see one public disturbance. Everything had its place, and there was an expectation that everyone would treat each other with respect.
On returning from the airport, I saw many Irish men returning from the European Championships. Many were in high spirits, and this took a turn for the worse when we boarded the plane.
