Dragon rule

• Karen Coleman's article (Irish Independent, February 25) got me thinking about the faustian trade-off we seem to have to make, between badly needed jobs and speaking out, when appropriate, about human rights abuses where-ever and whenever they occur.

I can't help feeling a sense of frustration that modern communication enables the latest atrocity to be uploaded on YouTube or Facebook, but doesn't give us many options for rectifying these wrongs.

Many Irish will empathise with the plight of the Tibetans, as we are all too familiar with colonial masters not being able to take a hint.
