Donations by religious orders have strings

I SHARE Eamon Gilmore's disappointment with the apparent decision of some church orders not to meet with Minister Ruairi Quinn to discuss 'burden sharing' when it comes to redress for those who suffered at the hands of the religious orders.

However, I was equally dismayed while reading through the review of the site chosen for the new national children's hospital site to see that the site donated by the Sisters of Mercy would only be guaranteed should the tertiary paediatric hospital be built on this site.

It seems that this caveat by the religious order in question also played a part in sealing the decision to build at the Mater. How disappointing that even after all the hurt caused to children by religious orders, their 'donations' come with strings attached.
