Doctors differ

Given that some medical consultants make substantially more than €200,000 in their spare time (Irish Independent, September 28), much of it while using publicly-funded infrastructure, why do they complain so vociferously that the current salary for the few hours they do under their HSE contract isn't sufficient to keep them in the country?

• Socrates wrote: "Once made equal to man, woman becomes his superior." Roisin Shortall, it seems, resigned on a point of principle.

The current Health Minister looked to a list drawn up by the previous Fianna Fail-led government as an excuse for what some in FF have referred to as "stroke politics". A case of a sheep in wolf's clothing, methinks!

Socrates also said: "False words are not only evil in themselves, but they infect the soul with evil."

But what would he know? By applying Mr Noonan's assessment of the Greeks' output, Socrates probably only ate feta cheese.
