•I wonder if Derek Ross and I were watching the same match (Letters, August 29). The standard of ball control and technique was still as abysmal as it has always been in the League of Ireland. One notable difference was their fitness level, which certainly surprised and impressed me. The keeper, who was by far the 'man of the match', kept Rovers in the game, time and time again.
Don't blame the punters if the product is not up to scratch. One swallow doesn't make a summer.
Unfortunately for Irish soccer followers, they have been failed by the FAI over many years and have much ground to make up. That will not happen while that organisation continues to limp along in a similar fashion to previous Irish governments.
