Defend us from these beggars

I REFER to the recent welcome government initiative introducing anti-begging legislation.

I have noticed that the sheer quantum and aggressiveness of begging on the street has increased tremendously in the past number of months, especially in the form of verbal abuse and harassment of smokers outside pubs and of people using cash machines.

I strongly believe that the proliferation of beggars on our streets stems from the fact that these individuals know they can make more than the average industrial wage for a minimum of effort.
