Cut snitching on neighbour policy
Madam – As a former president of a farming organisation I wish to comment on the Irish Wildlife Trust call to "rural neighbours to snitch on hedgerow-cutters."
I would strongly advise the Irish Wildlife Trust to discontinue the policy of calling on neighbours to snitch on one another in relation to the timing of hedgerow cutting for two reasons:
1. Farmers understand the breeding pattern of all wildlife and are well able to protect same as can be best demonstrated in the tens of thousands of landowners who participate in the Rural Environmental Protection Scheme (REPS).
