Cowen shows how deep crisis really is
For all the talk of Brian Cowen's revival, his performances on Wednesday in the Dail, on radio and on television were far from impressive. We are entitled to expect more from any Taoiseach in a debate on the worst financial crisis this country has ever seen.
In his interview with Miriam O'Callaghan he consistently refused to address the link between his policies as Taoiseach and Finance Minister, which culminated in the State being thrown out of the financial markets.
The overriding impression Mr Cowen gave throughout the day was one of a tribal leader who simply does not have the capacity to function above that level. Nothing was his fault.
