Court can't hide disgraceful jails

The criminal courts complex at Parkgate Street, Dublin, cost €140m, and has won architectural awards.

An article (Irish Independent, June 22) described how the complex will provide much improved facilities for the judges, barristers, jurors and members of the public.

This is all very positive, but how can we sit back and compliment ourselves for this achievement when conditions at our prisons are atrocious and overcrowding is chronic throughout the system?
