Country's plight being exploited

All nations involved in the relief effort in Haiti rightly deserve praise. Kevin Toomey (Letters, January 27) singles out Israel for particular praise.

He complains that many in the UN and Ireland harangue Israel as a "perceived demon" and holds up the positive actions of Israel in Haiti in exoneration of the perceived negative image. But why the negative image?

Mr Toomey answers the question himself. He tells us, "more resolutions have been passed at the UN condemning Israel than those against China, Sudan, Russia and others -- with their well-established records of inhumane crimes against minorities".
