Madam – There has been much mention in the media of proposals to increase the number of councillors on Dublin City Council (DCC). It has been reported that an increase of 11 councillors will cost more than €330,000 annually and will have to be funded from the council's own already overstretched budget. The move has been the subject of cross-party criticism from councillors, calling the increase a gross waste of public money.
Well I have a better plan, why don't those 'cross-party' concerned councillors ensure that their own already elected party councillors turn up for work in the first place?
Your readers might be shocked to know that councillors can stay away from attending to their local area meeting responsibilities for over a year at a time and not a mention is made.
