Consultants' pay is just pure greed
Madam -- I personally think the wages consultants in Ireland get is nothing short of greed. How can a country with a population 15 times smaller than the UK pay their consultants over twice what they get across the water? Gleaned from the NHS website, a consultant gets between £71,000 and £100,000 and as far I know they don't have any private patients to supplement their income. They are very aware of this because to train to consultant level, many went abroad due to our archaic rules where it takes twice as long to attain that level. A nurse's starting salary is £21,000.
It is not a situation where we not only have to get real but have some compassion for our little broke country. Where in the world do consultants get this type of pay where many of our European counterparts with much larger populations get a lot less? It is just pure greed.
