Columnists got carried away

Madam – I could not but be left in awe at the paroxysms of ecstasy that so many of your columnists indulged in following the recent increase in an opinion poll for Fianna Fail (Sunday Independent, November 25, 2012). Such a kneejerk reaction has not been seen since the heady days of 1974 when Dublin won the All-Ireland, with banners like "The Jacks are back". Or since Enda Kenny and his party made spectacular electoral gains in the 2004 EU and local elections, and the encouragement so many of your experts gave him, culminating in Eoghan Harris calling for an overall majority for him in 2011. Then it was obvious FF was finished. Who would believe it?
