Closing after 121 years of trading

LAST Thursday, August 26 , was a day I will never forget, and one of such sadness. We are a menswear shop and have been trading in Newcastle West, Co Limerick, since 1889 and we have no option but to close down.

The Closing Down signs I put up sum up how badly our country has fallen apart -- we have no vision, no focus and certainly no leadership. It is with much regret that Murphy & Son Menswear is closing down after 121 years of trading.

I have been in the menswear trade all my life, from Bests in Dublin to David Jones in Australia. It was two-and-a-half years ago that I returned to Ireland from Australia with my wife and three children to take over the family business.
