Clergy would do well to heed Bible

The old maxim "when in a hole stop digging" does not seem to have filtered through to the Vatican, which continues to issue derogatory statements which seem designed to cause controversy.

The latest attempt by Pope Benedict XVI to apportion blame for the child sex abuse scandal could not have come at a more inopportune time for the Catholic Church.

People are leaving the church in droves in Benedict's native Germany. His assertion that "paedophilia was not considered a grave crime in the 1970s" was ill-advised.
