Citizens require access to power
Madam -- Since it can be argued that the lack of accountability of many in high places was a major cause of the problems which the people of this country are now confronting, I welcome Philip Ryan's article in last week's Sunday Independent, criticising the Taoiseach.
I do have a problem, however, with the subject on which he is taking him to task.
In a democracy, all citizens are entitled to access those whom they elect to act on their behalf in high office. That is one of the basic rules of democratic governance, yet Mr Ryan reduces this right to "parish pump" politics.
