• I read with interest Darren Kennedy's article on fatherhood in 'Weekend' magazine (Saturday, August 18) and would like to offer one observation that might be pivotal in this fraught and torturous area of debate: nobody has a right to be a father.
Fatherhood, motherhood, parenthood -- these are not ours by right. Some will be fortunate to be chosen for these roles in our world, others won't.
It is modern society's misguided ambition to grant to all everything we desire as 'rights' that is contributing to our unhappiness.
We do not, and perhaps should not, try to control everything in our world.
