Blind history

•I want to take issue with your constant bias towards a revisionist rewriting of Irish history. The prominence these views are afforded is completely unacceptable in a newspaper styling itself Irish and independent.

For the second time in as many days, I am exasperated by half-baked concoctions, comprising a matrix of truth wrapped in a shroud of partisan declaration, this time coming from your correspondent Desmond Fitzgerald (Letters, September 21).

Mr Fitzgerald incorrectly stated there was widespread antipathy towards the Rising until the execution of the leaders swayed public sympathy. This analysis of the situation at the time holds up to initial scrutiny, but does not hold up on in-depth analysis.
