Blasphemy law is a total disgrace
In response to Kevin James O'Mahony on the removal of the blasphemy ban (Letters, September 13), I would like to point out that anyone who is ignorant enough to stone a woman to death in the name of religion should not escape criminal prosecution. Those responsible for the rape of children and those responsible for the cover-up should also not escape criminal prosecution.
The blasphemy law serves no other purpose than to prosecute those who oppose medieval practices, who speak out about the evils of many religions. It is this type of overprotection of religious institutions which led to the abuse of children in this country.
It is because of this overprotection that the head of the institution in this country that is supposed to teach our children the difference between what is morally right and wrong is himself guilty of grave errors of moral judgment but nonetheless still heads this institution.
