Blame attached to Cowen for the crash is disproportionate
It is amusing to read of the public anger and bile arising from the conferring of an honorary degree on former Taoiseach Brian Cowen. Irrespective of his role in the faux Celtic Tiger, it has been a tradition of the NUI to confer this honorary degree on past Taoisigh. Enda Kenny is next in line, having accepted the offer.
Why is Mr Cowen the sole recipient of the anger emanating from the financial collapse? After all, he was not the solitary person behind the fiasco of the financial bubble. Why were the Opposition parties in Dáil Éireann mute?
Not to mention Ireland's accountants, bank managers, merchant bankers, and above all the Central Bank? Why did no one in authority, in Ireland, heed the early warnings given to the Cowen government by economists?
