Bill of health
• The cost of healthcare is a millstone around the neck of Irish taxpayers. However, it is a millstone that provides very rich pickings for very powerful groups, including the Health Service Unions, IMO and IPU!
Irrespective of the damage to the economy, to the Health Services or to individual citizens (Harsh reality of austerity: 1.8 million have less than €100 left each month), We must wait and see whether James Reilly, a medical doctor, or Brendan Howlin, the son of a trade union official, will take on these powerful groups.
It is also probable that they don't even see the elephants that are in the rooms of the HSE -- and that there is huge scope for savings without taking from anyone that to which they are morally entitled, particularly in the context of today's economic crisis.
