Between the jigs and reels
Sir -- I read with interest John Masterson's article "A couple that sings together stays together". By his own admission, John has indicated that he cannot decipher the musical difference between a jig and a reel, and against this background still feels musically competent enough to criticise this art form, whose exponents include such wonderful musicians as Frankie Gavin, Arty McGlynn, etc, who have given such joy to a worldwide audience. Out of this complex art form, the concept of Riverdance was born, which received such worldwide acclaim and which promoted Ireland's positive image abroad.
