Better, not bigger

Of all the recent attacks on rural communities, surely the most insidious is the one on small primary schools?

In the last Budget, the Government set out its plan to phase out these schools by increasing the pupil-teacher ratio, removing assistant staff, decreasing capitation grants and increasing transport costs.

Since when have young children become economic commodities to be totted up on the side of the page?
