Bank inquiry hopes dashed

DESPITE having great expectations of a transparent public inquiry into the near demise of our banking system, I am not at all surprised that Taoiseach Brian Cowen, aided and abetted by Mr Gormley, has deprived us of that opportunity. One needn't beg the question as to who is being protected?

This government has a serious charge of 'guilty through association' to answer owing to its cronyism with the bankers and builders alike. Mr Cowen was Minister for Finance back then and he is accountable to the taxpayers. He, along with others, allowed the welfare of the State go unprotected during their watch.

The Government is not prepared to accept that fact. But owing to its incompetence, our daily borrowing has increased dramatically. And that is something our unaccountable government leader and ministers cannot deny or cover up.
