Axe to grind with 'free' education system

The irony in our "free education" system is that 60pc or more parents of Leaving Cert students fork out from €2,000 to €3,000 on grinds and the figure could even be higher as this estimate is taken from an article by David McWilliams written in 2004.

It would be fair to say that a student going into a Leaving Cert exam without the benefit of grinds would be like a person jumping out of an aeroplane without a parachute. Crazy.

A student with average intelligence would not have a hope in hell of getting enough points to do medicine without the benefit of grinds under the present system.
