Avatar . . . Footballers . . . Cyclists . . . Swine flu

Brian Murphy (Letters , February 2) dismisses out of hand David Quinn's contention that the film 'Avatar' has any intrinsic religious significance for viewers.

Instead, he suggests that, if the earth were deified, we wouldn't be living on a dying planet.

Mr Quinn could be right. Mr Murphy seems to forget that the denizens of this planet kill their deities by crucifixion.
