When I saw the headline in your comments section this week (Irish Independent, October 26, 2016) that started "Ashes ban is the Vatican's...," I thought the article was about the Papacy's dislike of either cricket or Australians.

To my surprise, the subject of the article, being the Vatican's ban on the scattering of ashes, or keeping the ashes at home, was a greater shock than my incomprehension of a Catholic fatwa against a soothing sport or our relatives Down Under.

I really cannot understand how the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith can spend time discussing what can and cannot be done with ashes when we still do not have a definitive answer to how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
