Animal cruelty must be stopped

Reading your news report 'Sick thugs set fire to puppy' (Irish Independent, July 18) several incidents of depravity involving animals over recent years come to mind, as does the amazing fact that nearly all of them were not deemed "serious" enough to be investigated.

Not investigating these matters and bringing the sick individuals to justice is a huge mistake -- for quite apart from the barbarity itself, it has been well proven that this twisted behaviour is a sort of 'apprenticeship' to doing the same to humans.

That apparently grown men were involved in this latest incident is particularly worrying. These idiots need to be taken out of society. They should at least be sitting in a cell. Anyone that cowardly and mentally disturbed should not be on the streets.
