All is changed on Keeler

Sir -- Just a few points on Anne Harris's comments (Sunday Independent, November 7, 2010) on meeting Christine Keeler in the Eighties. Since Anne Harris conducted that interview the Basil Street Hotel in Knightsbridge no longer exists; it has been converted into offices. Also, Keeler no longer lives in a flat at World's End, Chelsea. Jack Profumo was from a wealthy Anglo-Italian family and could have styled himself Baron Profumo. There is a hint that the 'Establishment' blamed a 'foreigner' for the spy scandal, but it is true that Profumo lied to the House of Commons.

After his resignation, Jack Profumo spent the rest of his life helping the disadvantaged in the East End. He was later awarded a CBE. Of Irish interest his cousin Captain Profumo was Master of the Galway Blazers for several seasons.
