Abusers need to seek support

Sir -- Gerry Ryan was a popular broadcaster who entertained the ears and minds of many hundreds of thousands of listeners throughout his successful career at RTE.

The inquest that followed his death revealed cocaine had been a major contributory factor to his sudden demise. For Gerry and many others who have fallen prey to this dark and dingy side of life, cocaine plays the smiling happy-go-lucky friend and merciless ruler.

If anything good comes from what has been divulged about Gerry Ryan, let's hope more people start to seek professional help and support for their dreadful and ultimately lethal addiction.
