A world exists beyond playing fields of GAA
WHY does Mick Murtagh of Ballinasloe (Letters, July 6) assume all soccer supporters have no interest in GAA? I have no doubt many of the supporters who flock to Croke Park have an interest in soccer, and indeed many other sports. I thought the attitude displayed by Mr Murtagh passed with the abolition of the ban.
Surely he should realise that just because someone supports the worldwide brand of a Premier League soccer club does not mean that they have committed treason. There are heroes in all sporting codes and it is possible to have a hero in two different codes -- Irish and foreign -- at the same time.
He should really get out a bit more and he will soon find that there is a world beyond his parish boundary.
