A well-deserved standing ovation
Madam -- Last Monday night, Canon George Salter was the honoured guest at the weekly dinner of the Cork Rotary Club in the Metropole Hotel Cork, at which I was present.
As this was the same night RTE was transmitting his powerful personal testimony in the film 'An Tost Fada' (The Long Silence), the Rotarians rigged a large screen so that Canon Salter could properly appreciate his central performance. At the end of that fine documentary he was given a well-deserved standing ovation.
It was a deeply moving occasion. I felt privileged to be present when this great citizen of Cork received the applause which his life and work so richly deserved. Go maire se an cead!
