A decent man
• It would probably be easier to say nothing but on balance I feel that I must reply to Mary Sullivan's letter in praise of Brian Lenihan (June 11).
Brian Lenihan was an intelligent, well-educated man from a political dynasty. As finance minister he was mainly responsible for the bank guarantee, the establishment of NAMA and the elimination of the double social welfare payment at Christmas.
Mary Sullivan says: "If Brian had a failing it was his absolute loyalty to Fianna Fail.'' How can any politician, who is mainly responsible for running this country over the cliff, be praised so?
