Information and communications technologies have transformed our lives dramatically in many ways. They are powerful forces for good in society. They drive much of the global economy and provide instant communications around the world. But there is a downside with which we have become all too familiar, especially in recent times.

Malware, ransomware, cybercrime, cyberfraud, the dark web, denial of service attacks, phising, WikiLeaks, etc are all words we have had to learn over the past few years.

New technologies have also made the old practice of phone tapping easier, a practice still indulged in by rogue Garda elements, as an Irish Independent investigation has revealed.
