We pay for the banks so deserve all the answers
'Deutschland, Deutschland, Ubber Alles.' The Anglo Tapes revealed how Anglo Irish Bank boss David Drumm laughed about "abusing" the bank guarantee and warned his executives not to be caught abusing it. The disclosure was extraordinary and highlighted to readers of the Irish Independent the attitude of Drumm during the financial crash. Drumm was heard giggling as one of his executives, John Bowe, sings the German national anthem as deposits flow into Anglo as a result of the bank guarantee.
Last night, it was not clear if such events, following the introduction of the bank guarantee, would be probed by the banking inquiry.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny said the inquiry to be set up would cover "the bank guarantee and events leading up to it".
