We need better from politicians

The decision by Willie Penrose to resign as Minister of State for Housing illustrates that, despite last February's momentous general election result, it is still very much business as usual for Ireland's parish pump politicians.

It was Sir Winston Churchill who famously wrote in the immediate aftermath of World War One that: "The whole map of Europe has changed -- but as the deluge subsides and the waters fall short we will see the dreary steeples of Fermanagh and Tyrone emerging once again."

Is something similar now happening in modern Ireland?
