We must show we are a 'special case'
Wolfgang Schaeuble, German finance minister and one of the most formidable politicians in Europe, came to Dublin with good news.
He declared himself "100pc confident" that Ireland will not need a second bailout when the present EU-ECB-IMF programme is completed. He echoed Chancellor Angela Merkel when he asserted that we are a special case and that there is no misunderstanding between the Irish and German governments on the issue of "legacy" bank debt.
Government members, for whom good news is a rare commodity, have every reason to congratulate themselves on the success of these meetings.
